Boca Raton police have released
the two-minute tape of a call made by a Town Center at Boca Raton mall
security guard to police after finding Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her
7-year-old daughter, Joey, shot dead in their idling SUV the morning
of Dec. 13, 2007.
Authorities said they hope the
recording may stir more clues into the still unsolved crime.
On the tape, the guard tells police
he found a black car parked near Sears with two people inside. He said
it appeared they were sleeping, but he could not rouse them.
The guard asks police to send
a patrol car to the scene to "check the car."
According to reports, the mother
and daughter were apparently abducted after leaving the mall during
daylight hours on Dec. 12, according to a surveillance tape from a mall
security camera. The idling SUV was found sometime after midnight, said
police.
A combined task force of detectives
from Boca Raton police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office continues
to search for the person who bound, robbed and shot the pair. Investigators
say the killed may be the same person who shot Randi Gorenberg behind
the South County Civic Center in Delray Beach in March 2007 after she
was abducted after leaving the mall.
A mother and son were also abducted
last summer in the mall parking lot, but the armed abductor did not
shoot them.
The three incidents have called
attention to security procedures at the mall. The cases have also been
re-enacted on "America's Most Wanted" and "Dateline NBC"
and is scheduled to be featured on an "E" network program
in August.
The city of Boca Raton is still
offering a $350,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and
conviction of the suspect. A drawing based on information provided by
the woman abducted in August 2007 shows a young man with a flopping
hat and ponytail, wearing wrap-around sunglasses.
A man who appeared to match that
description was stopped by police at the Aventura Mall recently, but
he turned out not to be the suspect, said police.
